Catharine of Sienna

Catharine of Sienna (1347-1380), original name Caterina Benincasa, was one of the patron saints of Italy. She was declared a doctor of the church in 1970 and a patron saint of Europe in 1999. She was a Dominican mystic and saint, born at Sienna, a sister of the Order of St. Dominic, and patron saint of the Order. She is celebrated for her ecstasies and visions, and the marks which by favour of Christ she bore on her body of His sufferings on the Cross. Festival, April 30. Besides her, are other saints of the same name.
