Chandra Gupta II is identified with the legendary king Vikramaditya. He ascended to the throne in 375 on the death of Samudra Gupta, his father. He was a great ruler and conqueror.

Gupta empire reached its height during his rule. He was patron of art and literature. He died in 413 AD.
