Charles

Charles, Marquis de Bonchamp (1760-1793), was a French general, born in Anjou, served in the American war. He became one of the chiefs of the Vendéan army. He fell at the battle of Cholet, and when dying, relented over the blood already shed. He ordered the release of 5000 prisoners which his party, in their revenge, was about to massacre.
