Charles Babbage
Charles Babbage (1791-1871) was an English mathematician and inventor. He was also the pioneer of machine computing. He was born in Devonshire, studied at Cambridge, and became professor there. He spent much time and money over the invention of a calculating machine. With Ada Lovelace, he designed the mechanical computer that would perform calculations and print the results. However, the work remained incomplete during his lifetime. He wrote on "The Economy of Manufactures and Machinery," and an autobiography entitled "Passages from the Life of a Philosopher". In his later years he was famous for his hostility to street organ-grinders.Wisdom & Quotes
