Charlotte
Charlotte Stanley (1599 – 1664), Countess of Derby, born Charlotte de La Trémoille, was wife of the 7th Earl who was taken prisoner at Worcester in 1651, and was beheaded at Bolton. She is famous for her gallant defence of Lathom House during the English Civil War against the Parliamentary forces, which she was obliged to surrender. She lived to see the Restoration.Nearby pages
