Chhaya

Chhaya was a shadow of Sangya the wife of Surya the sun-god in Hindu mythology. She was left by Sangya in her place when she once went to her father's home without Surya's knowledge. Chhaya lived with Surya as wife and bore him two sons - Shani and Savarni, and one daughter named Tapti. Surya believed her to be Sangya.

Chhaya, the maid and the look-alike of Sangya, once showered love to her own children. It angered Yam who was son of Surya by his wife Sangya. He kicked his step mother Chhaya with his leg. Chhaya lost her temper and cursed him that the legs would fall off. Yam complained about it to his father, who then realized that Chhaya was not Sangya. Her curse was then amended.
