Chirang district
Chirang is a district in the state of Assam in India. It is spread over an area of 1468.42 sq km. It was carved out of the districts of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta in 2003. The district has been functioning with effect from 04th June, 2004. It is one of the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD). Kajalgaon is the district Headquarters.The population of the district as per 2011 census was 4,81,818. There are three Revenue Circles and six (6) CD Blocks in the district.
The word "Chirang" is derived from the Garo word "Chi" meaning water and "Rang" meaning wealth. It is the second least populous district in the state, after Dima Hasao. Kajalgaon is the district headquarters.
