Christiania

Christiania was the capital of Norway, during the 1814–1905. After the old city Oslo founded 1040 under the name Ánslo, was destroyed by fire in 1624, a new city was built Akershus Fortress and named Christiania in honour of the king. It is romantically situated at the head of Christiania Fiord. It was the residence of the king and the seat of government. It was manufacturing and trading city by the beginnin of 20th century, but used to be is blocked up against traffic for four months in the year.

From 1877, the city's name was spelled Kristiania in government usage, a spelling that was adopted by the municipal authorities in 1897, although 'Christiania' was also used. In 1925, the city was renamed 'Oslo'.
