Colombo
Colombo is the executive and judicial capital of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) and the chief port on the West coast. The Greater Colombo area includes Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the legislative capital of the country, and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. Colombo is surrounded on three sides by the sea, and on the other by a lake and moat. The city is supplied with water and gas. It has many fine buildings and has a very mixed population. Sri Lanka came under British control in 1796, but now an independent country since 1948.Nearby pages
