Corazón Aquino

Corazón Aquino (1933-2009), full name Maria Corazón Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino was a Filipino stateswoman. She was widow of politician Benigno S Aquino, President Ferdinand Marcos’s chief opponent and challenger, who was assassinated in 1983. She protested February 1986 presidential election in the country, led a campaign and garnered wide popular support. Ultimately she was elected president in 1986 and remained in office during 1986-1992. Her son Benigno Simeon Aquino III (b. 1960), popularly known as Noynoy served as president during 2010-2016.
