Corvée

Corvée was an obligation, an unpaid forced labour, as at one time enforced in France to render certain services to Seigneurs, such as repairing of roads, abolished by the Contituent Assembly, on August 4, 1789, shortly after the beginning of the French Revolution. The National Constituent Assembly was formed on June 17, 1789 during the French Revolution that had begun on 5 May 1789.
