Cowper Phipps Coles

Cowper Phipps Coles (1819-1870) was an English naval captain and architect. He entered the navy at 11 and distinguished himself at Sebastopol. He was designer of the turret-ship the Captain, which capsized off Finisterre, himself on board, and drowned with a crew of 500 men.
