Datia

Datia is a district in the State of Madhya Pradesh in India. It lies between Latitude 25 deg 28" North - 26 deg 20" North and Longitude 78 deg 10" East - 78 deg 45" East. It has an area of 2691 Sq km with a population of 627818 as per census 2001.

The district derives its name from the town of the same name which is also its headquarters.

There are 602 villages in this district out of which 542 are populated. There are 250 gram panchayats and 3 development block and tehsils.

History

Datia is an ancient town, mentioned in the mahabharata as Daityavakra.

Datia is a famed for the seven-storied palace built by Raja Bir Singh Deo in 1614.
