David D'Angers

David D'Angers (1788-1856), real name Pierre-Jean David, was a French sculptor, born at Angers. He came to Paris and became a pupil of Jacques-Louis David (1748 – 1825), afterwards proceeded to Rome and associated with Canova. He executed in Paris a statue of the Great Condé, and thereafter the pediment of the Pantheon, his greatest work, as well as numerous medallions of great men. On a visit to Weimar he modelled a bust of Goethe.
