Dhu-al-Nun al-Misri

Dhu-al-Nun al-Misri (d. 860) was an Egyptian Sufi mystic leader who is believed by many Sufis as the originator of their doctrine in its ascetic form. He said that true nature of God could be known only by ecstasy, which was achieved through asceticism.
