Dioscorides

Dioscorides (c. 40–90 AD), full name Pedanius Dioscorides, was a Greek physician, born in Cilicia. He left a treatise in 5 books on materia medica, named "De Materia Medica", a work of great research, and long the standard authority on the subject. It was a encyclopedic pharmacopeia on herbal medicie and related medicinal substance. He is considered the father of pharmacognosy.
