Diu

Diu is a district in the Union Territory of Daman and Diu in India. It is comprised of the whole area of the small island of the same name. Diu is its headquarters town from which it derives its name. The district is also famous for its port city Diu. Diu district is situated in the Gulf of Cambay south of the peninsula of Gujarat. It was once a flourishing place, and contained a famous Hindu temple. It was inhabited chiefly by fishermen, but now has mixed population.

Formerly, it was part of the Portuguese colony Daman and Diu.
