Douglas Jerrold

Douglas Jerrold (1803-1857) was an English dramatist and celebrated wit, born in London, son of a theatrical magistrate. He began his life as a printer. He composed "Black-eyed Susan". He also contributed to Punch "Mrs. Caudle's Lectures" among other pieces, and edited magazines. The keenness of his satire was the reflex of a feeling heart.
