Economy of India
Economy of India has undergone many ups and downs in its history. In the early period of its history, India was referred to as 'Golden Bird'. However, it is now the home of largest number of poor in the world.When India became independent in 1947, the economic condition was in very bad shape. In 1950-51, according to the series 2004-5 of the Department of Finance, Govt of India, the Gross National Income at current prices was only Rs 10360 crore, Net National Income was Rs 9829 crore, and per capita Net National Income was Rs 274. In 2017-18, as per the advanced estimate, it was increased to Rs 16438895 crore, Rs 14710563 crore, and Rs 111782, respectively, based on the series 2011-12.
