Edgar Saltus

Edgar Saltus (1855-1921), full name Edgar Evertson Saltus, was a US writer, born in New York. He was a notable writer in fiction, biography (Balzac), and philosophy, e. g. "The Philosophy of Disenchantment" and "The Anatomy of Negation," studies in a somewhat cheerful pessimism. He is known for a highly refined prose style. He also wrote under the pseudonym Myndart Verelst and Archibald Wilberforce, and translated works by Balzac, Théophile Gautier, and Prosper Mérimée.
