Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby

Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby, first Viscount (1861-1936), was a British soldier who led the command of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force against the Turks in the World War I.

He captured Jerusalem in 1917 and defeated the Turkish forces at Megiddo in 1918. He served in the region as High Commissioner for Egypt and the Sudan from 1919 until 1925.
