Edward Dowden

Edward Dowden (1843 - 1913) was an Irish literary critic, poet, and a professor of English Literature in Dublin University, born in Cork. He is distinguished specially as a Shakesperian. He is author of "Shakespeare: a Study of his Mind and Art," "Introduction to Shakespeare," and "Shakesperian Sonnets, with Notes". He wrote "Studies in Literature," and a "Life of Shelley". He was also well read in German as well as English literature. He wrote with no less ability on Goethe than on Shakespeare.
