Edward Law

Edward Law (1790-1871), Earl of Ellenborough, was an English Conservative statesman, son of Baron Ellenborough, Lord Chief-Justice of England. He entered Parliament in 1813. He held office under the Duke of Wellington and Sir Robert Peel. He was appointed Governor-General of India in 1841, and recalled in 1844. Subsequently, he became the First Lord of the Admiralty and Indian Minister under Lord Derby.
