Fantis

Fantis, also Fantes, are an African tribe primarily live in the present day Ghana. They were living chiefly on the Gold Coast, and were enemies of their conquerors the Ashantis (Asantes). They fought as allies of the British in the Ashanti War (1873-74), but, although of strong physique, proved cowardly allies. It should be noted that both Fantis and Ashantis are subgroups of Akan people. A member of this tribe is called Fanti or Fante.
