Fatehgarh Sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib is a district in the State of Punjab in India. This district derives its name from a famous gurudwara named Fatehgarh Sahib.

The main Gurudwara commemorates the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh's young sons, who were walled in on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb for not converting to Islam. The Gurudwara Jyot Swarup nearby stands on the spot where the martyrs were cremated.

The district is bounded by Ludhiana and Ropar in the North, Patiala in the South, parts of Ropar and Patiala in the East and parts of Ludhiana and Sangrur in the West. It is situated between 30 degree-38' North 16 degree-27' East.

History

The historic and pious District of Fatehgarh Sahib came into existence with effect from 13th April, 1992 , Baisakhi Day deriving its name from Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the youngest son of Guru Gobind Singh.
