Filled gold

Filled gold is a term used in jewelry. It refers to jewelry that involves a process in which a layer of gold is applied over a relatively inexpensive metal.

Such a piece of jewellery is sometimes called gold filled jewellery. They contain at least 5 per cent of gold by weight.

It is different from gold plating in the sense that gold plating requires 0.05% or less of the metal product in weight. Sometimes, such gold plated jewellery is called roll gold.
