Fitzroy Somerset Raglan
Fitzroy Somerset Raglan (1788-1855), full name Fitzroy James Henry Somerset, Lord Raglan, the 1st Baron of Raglan, was a British Field Marshal, the youngest son of the Duke of Beaufort. He entered the army at sixteen, served with distinction all through the Peninsular War, and became aide-de-camp to the Duke of Wellington, and his military secretary. He lost his right arm at Waterloo. In 1815, he did diplomatic service at Paris, and held afterwards a succession of important military posts. He was appointed commander-in-chief of the British forces in the Crimea, and was present at all the engagements till attacked by cholera, aggravated by a repulse and unjust reflections on his conduct of the war, he sank exhausted and died.Nearby pages
