Franz Boas

Franz Boas (1858 — 1942), born in Germany, was a US anthropologist. He is considered a pioneer of modern anthropology, and known primarily for developing the linguistic and cultural components of ethnology. "Race, language, and Culture" published in 1940 is his most famous work.
