French Congo

French Congo, founded in 1882 and dissolved in 1960, was a colony of France, a continuous and connected territory extending westward along the right bank of the Congo from Brazzaville to the mouth of the Mobangi, and as far as 4° N. run N. behind the Cameroons, and along the E. of Shari to Lake Tchad. In 1910, it was made part of the larger French Equatorial Africa, and having gained independence from France, it was dissolved in 1960. The modern Republic of the Congo is considered French Congo's successor state.
