FRIEDRICH ARNOLD BROCKHAUS (1772-1823), a German publisher, born at Dortmund; a man of scholarly parts; began business in Amsterdam, but settled in Leipzig; publisher of the famous "Conversations Lexikon," and a great many other important works.
