Geographic Information System

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer based tool for mapping, collecting, storing, retrieving, transforming, analysing and displaying spatial and non-spatial data from the real world for a particular set of purpose.

Since such systems can input, store, retrieve, analyze and display geographically referenced information and enhance the analysis and display of interpreted geographic data, it provides ideal platforms for the convergence of disease-specific information and their analyses in relation to population settlements, surrounding social and health services and the natural environment.
