Gondiya

Gondiya is a district in the State of Maharashtra in India. It is located between 70.39 to 21.38 degree North Latitudes, 89.27 to 82.42 degree East Latitudes. The district headquarter is situated at Gondia.

The adjoining districts to Gondia are on northen side Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh and on eastern sideRajnandgaon district of Chattisgarh state. To the south and west are Chandrapur district and Bhandara district of Maharashtra.

The total population of the District is 1200151. Geographical Area of District is 4843.13 Sq. K.M.

The district is divided inot two subdivisions namely Gondia and Deori. Each subdivisiion has 4 talukas, 556 Grampanchayat 954 revenue villages exist in the district.

Basically district is divided into 8 talukas and 8 Panchayat Samiti. Only two mucipalities are existing at Gondia and Tiroda.

History

Gondia district was carved out by division of Bhandara district. This district came into existence on 1-5-1999.
