Gustave Courbet
Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) was a French painter, born at Ornans. He took to landscape-painting. He was head of the Realistic school. He joined the Commune in 1871. His property and pictures were sold to pay the damage done, and especially to restore the Vendôme Column. He died an exile in Switzerland.Nearby pages
