Gymnosophists

Gymnosophists are a set of contemplative philosophers among the Hindus who practised an extreme asceticism and went about almost naked. Plutarch mentions Alexander meeting 10 gymnosophists of India in his "Lives". The term is also applied to others extreme ascetics who take little food and wear little cloths and remain almost naked, since they believe food and clothing to be detrimental to right thinking.
