Halifax

Halifax is a name of several cities.

1. Halifax is a prosperous town, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, in England situated amid surrounding hills on the Hebble, 43 miles southwest of York. It is an important market town and have been known as manufacturing town having the staple industries of carpet and worsted manufacturing, the carpet works being the largest in the world by the beginning of the 20th century. Cotton, merinos, and damasks were also woven and dyed.

2. Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia in Canada. It is situated near the head of Chebucto Bay, which forms a magnificent harbour. By the beginning of the 20th century it had emerged as the naval and military head-quarters of the British in North America, and the chief port in East Canada. A citadel and masked batteries defended the town. It was also known by that time as an important railway and shipping terminus and coaling station. Its gravingdock was the largest in America. It is the seat of Dalhousie University.
