Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a world-famous story-teller of Danish birth. This Danish author is noted for his fairy tales.

He was born at Odense in a poor family. His father was a poor shoemaker. He began publishing his fairy tales from 1835. The Snow Queen, The Ugly Duckling, and The Little Match Girl are his famous fairy tales.

Anderson was being honoured even some time before he made his mark. He was honoured at length by the esteem and friendship of the royal family, and by a national festival on his seventieth birthday.
