Headache

Headache is a continuous pain in the head. It is a non-specific symptom. There are over 200 types of headaches. Some are harmless and some are life-threatening.

It can be a symptom of a number of different conditions of illness of other parts of the body. It can be caused by many other things, like constipation, lack of water in the body, or an accident. In fact, it can have many possible causes.

That is why It is not treated as an illness in itself. The source of headache is investigated and then the patient is treated for its source causing headache.

It is worth mentioning that the brain does not have pain receptors and therefore it does not feel pain. Rather, the pain is caused by disturbance of the pain-sensitive structures around the brain. There are nine such areas that have pain receptors - the cranium (the periosteum of the skull), muscles, nerves, arteries and veins, subcutaneous tissues, eyes, ears, sinuses and mucous membranes.
