Henrik Hertz

Henrik Hertz (1798-1870) was a Danish poet, born in Copenhagen of Jewish parents. He graduated in law at Copenhagen, and produced his first work, a comedy, in 1827. "Letters of a Ghost," a satire, followed three years later, and had a wide vogue. His best-known work is "King René's Daughter," which has been translated into English for the fourth time by Sir Theodore Martin. He is considered one of the greatest of modern Danish lyrists and dramatists.
