Henry Beaufort
Henry Beaufort (1377-1447) was an English prelate, cardinal, bishop of Winchester. He was son of John of Gaunt. He was learned in canon law and was several times chancellor. He took a prominent part in all the political movements of the time, exerted an influence for good on the nation, lent immense sums to Henry V and Henry VI, and also left bequests for charitable uses, and founded the hospital of St. Cross at Winchester.Nearby pages
