Henry Fuseli

Henry Fuseli (1741-1825), properly Fusoli, was a famous Swiss portrait-painter, born at Zurich. Coming to England at the age of 22, he became acquainted with Sir Joshua Reynolds, who advised him to go to Rome. After eight years spent in study of the Italian masters, and Michael Angelo in particular, he returned to England and became a Royal Academician (RA). He painted a series of pictures, afterwards exhibited as the "Milton Gallery".
