!Holi
Holi is a major festival of India among Hindus. It marks the end of the year. It is a festival of colours.
This saturnalian or spring festival is celebrated on the first date of the moth of Chaitra, that marks the beginning of the year. On the eve of this celebration Holika is burnt, a symbolic ritual to mark an incident when the sister of Hiranyakshipu, Holika, burnt alive while she sat on a pyre wearing a protective shawl along with Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakshipu.
As per the mythology, Hiranyakshipu was a demon king who was against god, while his son Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, the Supreme God.
