Hyphen
Hyphen is the name of the punctuation mark "-". It is used to join two words to form a temporary compound, such a self-conscious.It is sometimes confused with "−" sign, which is little longer, and called "en dash" (en quadrat). The typographic unit en dash is also sometimes called "nut". The length of the en dash is half of the length of the "em dash" (em quadrat) "—".
En dash is used as a sigh of minus symbol, or as dash such as in Pre–history, or Pre–World War II.
En dash is used to insert a phrase or sentence within a line, such as in the sentence – "Politicians —whether communal or liberal— sometimes behave in a partisan way."
