Ich Dien
Ich Dien is a German phrase for "I serve", which was the motto of the Black Prince, Edward (1330 – 1376), the Prince of Wales, who adopted it from John of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia (1296 – 1346) after the battle of Crécy in 1346, in which he was killed. Edward had adopted it with the crest of ostrich feathers, but now a ribbon below the coronet bears this German motto. On the tomb of the Black Price the motto was spelt "ich diene" at the time of his burial at Canterbury in 1376. Since then it has been the motto of the English Prince of Wales.Nearby pages
