Idi Amin

Idi Amin (1925-2003), also Idi Amin Dada, was a Ugandan dictator and head of the state during 1971-79. He established military dictatorship (1971), after having been commander-in-chief of the army and air force. He is infamous for the atrocities under his regime, including killing his opponents, expelling Ugandan Asians, taking over foreign-owned businesses. However, he was defeated in his 1978 attempt to annex a portion of Tanzania and ultimately fled Uganda (1978).
