Induction

INDUCTION, the name given to the logical process by which from a study of particular instances we arrive at a general principle or law.

The term is also applied to an electric or magnetic effect produced without direct contact and equal to the cause, being essentially its reproduction.

It is the process of producing an electrical or magnetic effect through the influence of a nearby magnet, electric current, or electrically charged body.

Through this process charge is moved in a conductor by the presence of an electric field. In wires this will lead to a current, in discrete conducting objects it will lead to local charging, ie the side near the inducing charge will become the opposite charge and the far side will acquire a similar charge leaving the overall charge of the object unchanged.
