Irritant

Irritant is a substance or a chemical that causes slight inflammation or discomfort to the body that comes into its contact.

An irritant is not corrosive, but causes a reversible inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the site of contact.

The word 'irritant' is also used figuratively in language, for the object or the thing that is annoying or distracting.
