Ivan III

Ivan III (1440 – 1505), surnamed The Threatening, also Ivan the Great, full name Ivan Vasilyevich, was Grand Prince of Moscow, who sought to free Russia from the yoke of the Tartars who had held it tributary for two centuries. He gained victories over the Tartars and the Poles, and was the first to receive at Moscow ambassadors from other Powers of Europe. He reigned from 1462 to 1505.
