Jammu and Kashmir Vidhan Sabha Elections

Jammu and Kashmir Vidhan Sabha had 87 seats prior to the reorganization of the state on August 5, 2019, when the Union of India did away with the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution of India. The state was split into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Laddakh. Only Jammu and Kashmir will have an assembly, and therefore the Vidhan Sabha constituencies of the Laddakh areas are to be carved out from 87 seats of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir. Prior to August 5, the term of the Vidhan Sabha of the state was of six year.
