Jean Hackques Dessalines (1749-1806) a Haitian revolutionary and ruler. He was noted for boldness during Haitian revolt against the French. At one time he was fighting his way out from a 12,000 troop French siege with only six hundred men.

As emperor, he was a tyrannical ruler.

He was assassinated by one of his officers.
