Jim Corbet National Park is in Uttarakhand state of India. The area of this wildlife sanctuary is 521 sq kms. It is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas. It spreads over parts of two districts of Uttarakhand. An area of 312.86 sq kms falls in Pauri Garhwal district and 208.14 sq kms falls in Nainital district. The park occupies portions of Kalagarh and Ramnagar forest divisions. It falls within the trek of Paltidun. It is the first national park of India established in 1936. It was named Hailey National Park in the beginning. However, in 1957, the park was rechristned as the Corbett National Park in the memory of Late Jim Corbett, a famous hunter who became conservationist later in his life. The whole area is 1318.54 sq kms out of which Corbett National Park is spread in an area of 520.82 sq kms, Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 301.18 sq kms, and the Reserve Forest is spread over an area of 496.54 sq kms. Ramganga , Sonanadi , Mandal , and Palain are the main rivers flowing through this reserve. It is very rich in wildlife existence. Wild Elephants, Tiger, Leopard, Civet, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Sambahar, Chital, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Ghural, Neel Gai, Wild Boar, Slothbear, Marten, Otter, Mongoose, an Hare are major mammals found in this area. Over 580 Species of resident and migratory birds can be spotted here. Reptiles here include Gharials, Crocodiles, Python, Turtles, King Cobra, and Lizard. Mahseer, Goonch, and Trout are major fish varieties found here.
